Government Initiative

Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development unveiled a five-year industrial hemp strategy on June 3, 2026. The plan designates pilot zones in the central highlands and targets both fiber and seed production.

Strategic Goals

Officials aim to reach 5,000 hectares under cultivation by 2030 while developing domestic processing capacity. The program includes technical training for farmers and partnerships with textile manufacturers.

International Trade Angle

The initiative aligns with Vietnam’s broader export diversification efforts. Early discussions with European buyers have focused on certified fiber grades meeting EU traceability standards.

Implementation Timeline

Provincial authorities will begin farmer registration in July 2026. Initial harvest data is expected in late 2027. The ministry stressed the program remains limited to industrial applications and does not involve cannabinoid extraction or consumer products.
