Technical Focus
Researchers are testing varying ratios of processed hemp shiv combined with traditional aggregates to assess compressive strength, thermal properties, and moisture regulation. Early laboratory results indicate potential benefits in reducing the overall density of non-load-bearing blocks.
Industry Relevance
If successful, the approach could open new markets for hemp producers in the construction sector, where demand for lower-carbon building materials continues to rise. Results from the first phase are expected in December 2026, with full-scale demonstration panels planned for 2027. Project partners include several UK construction firms and regional hemp growers.
